This one was bad.
I saw on Pinterest that babies love sensory play and decided this was a ‘thing’. My baby touches stuff all the time. I don’t know why I felt the need to officiate…
Anyway, people were putting paint, glitter, little plastic toys etc into clear plastic wallets. You know the punched kind for putting paper in and storing in a folder? Well stick to doing that with them. The idea is you fill them with stainy, messy stuff and tape up the open edge. Then tape it down to the table and let your baby squish it about looking for the treasures.
I only had black poster paint, so we used that. On our white table. High contrast is nice for babies…
I feel like at least one pinner should have mentioned how important it is to cut your babies nails VERY short or use heavy duty wallets. Even as I set this up, my 4 year old said “this is not a good idea. He will get the paint and eat it”. I assured her that he wouldn’t, because I was taping it up!
He didn’t even go for the taped edge. He squished it briefly (as directed), then dug his claws in and ripped. Then slapped it. Then smeared it and then rubbed his head and face. All in less time than it took for me to realise and wrestle him away. He continued trying to get back to the disgusting mess whilst I tried to drag him from the highchair, which he gripped surprisingly well with his legs.
There aren’t any pictures. That wasn’t high on my agenda to be honest.
